VISION

Our vision - bridges between cultures

Africa has more to offer than photo safaris and golf hotels; African culture is not just about drum rolls and tribal rituals. We want to show the beauty, but also the reality of the entire continent and at the same time set an example for tolerance and understanding between cultures.

Nthakoana Ngatane, organiser of the Africa Days

The Africa Days are organised without public funding. "We want to be independent and organise a festival of cultural diversity," says M. Abdelati. Nevertheless, there are good contacts and partnerships. Without the help of many Africa lovers, a major cultural event like the Africa Days would be impossible to organise.

We are always happy when someone has a good idea that we can realise at the festival. >> Contact

Mary's Meals - school meals for hungry children

The Africa Days Vienna donate 1,000 meals to Mary's Meals Austria. Support the future and the lives of children in the world's poorest countries with a donation! Mary's Meals is a global movement to end hunger.

Afrika Tage Wien unterstützen Marys Meals

A bowl of grain changes the world

Thanks to the support of countless people, the school nutrition initiative feeds more than 2.4 million children in 17 of the poorest countries in the world. For most of the children, the school meals from Mary's Meals are the only food they eat each day. They enable them to attend school and gain an education. Today, food and education are seen as the key to escaping the spiral of poverty and hunger in later life.
Feeding a child for a whole school year costs on average 22 Euro.

Mary's Meals is currently helping children in Tigray, Ethiopia: After a devastating period of conflict, many families have been able to return to their villages from the refugee camps in recent months. Although the war appears to be over, it will be a long time before everything is rebuilt. In cooperation with our local partner, we were able to realise the School feeding programme in all 36 schools where children received Mary's Meals before the conflict (and the pandemic-related closures), resume. The resumption of the school feeding programme is like a lifeline for the families who are trying to rebuild their lives after several years on the run. Many people are still severely traumatised by the war. >> All information about Mary's Meals

Commitment

"Africa is an incredibly fascinating continent for me. And despite all the problems that naturally exist in everyday life, there is an unimaginable amount of joie de vivre, warmth and an indescribable warmth ... It is worth taking the opportunity to get to know this continent and its people better during the Africa Days on the Danube Island and to rediscover Africa for yourself."

StoP - Neighbourhoods without partner violence

"StoP neighbourhoods without partner violence" provides information at this year's Africa Days

StoP is represented at the Africa Days for the first time this year and offers workshops in which, among other things, the warning signs of a violent relationship are addressed. >> All information about the workshop "Warning signs of a violent relationship"

Violence against women is a global problem, it happens everywhere, every day and in all social classes, communities and religions. Violence therefore has no skin colour and no nationality. Violence against women is a gender-specific problem because it is male violence against women and because women are disproportionately more frequently affected by violence than men. For many women and children, their own home is the most dangerous place, they are affected by male violence and often do not know how to escape. The longer women and children have to suffer violence, the more serious the consequences.

It is therefore all the more important to talk about partner violence and domestic violence everywhere, to inform everyone about it, to sensitise people and thus create awareness so that those affected can find a way out and perpetrators of violence can be stopped.

Location: Storytelling tent
Time Workshops: 13, 20 and 27 August from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Times Info table: Mon, Tue, Fri, Sat and Sun 4-6 p.m.

Violence against women has no skin colour or nationality - it happens everywhere

StoP is a violence prevention and neighbourhood project that raises awareness in society against partner violence and male violence and encourages the neighbourhood and all people to exercise civil courage against partner violence. "What to say and what to do" is the motto of StoP. Moving from talk to action is the step towards change and ending partner violence. StoP is based on democracy, participation and feminism. StoP is coordinated throughout Austria by the AÖF association and StoP already exists in 25 locations in Austria, including 9 districts in Vienna The StoP team works tirelessly every day with an active neighbourhood to create a violence-free society. Because it is time for political change.

Everyone can participate in StoP: www.stop-partnergewalt.at

We would like to thank the team from the Africa Days for their cooperation

The StoP concept was developed by Professor Sabine Stövesand at the HAW in Hamburg. StoP is funded by the BMSGPK, FGÖ and WiG.

Femondial - Association for the support of women worldwide

FEMONDIAL is a non-profit organisation that offers women around the world a fair platform for trading their handmade products. Through targeted projects, we pave the way for women to become self-employed - giving them access to work and education. Further information on the Femondial association

The profits from the resale of the products are in turn used to support new and charitable projects. Founder and chairwoman Angelique Lung travels all over the world on behalf of humanitarian organisations, which is how the idea of founding the association came about.

In 2024, FEMONDIAL supports women and their projects in Togo, Tanzania, Yemen and Colombia.

 PROJECTS (short texts)

 Togo (Tailor Afi)

Since 2022, FEMONDIAL has been collaborating with the Tailor Afi in Lomé/Togo.

Their product range includes Aprons, hair bands, hair ties and bags. Since the beginning of our cooperation, she has had a stable income and our regular orders have already enabled her to take on two more women.

Colombia (NGO Visajes)

Marcela and Tatiana founded the non-profit organisation VISAJES in Bogotáto promote young women. To finance their ambitions and projects, they produce Ecologically sustainable accessories made from recycled materials. The proceeds from these sales are used to organise workshops on the philosophy of non-violence.

Colombia (Izquierdo family)

This project supports the family Izquierdo from the People of the Arhuacos in the north of Colombia. Especially the two women Martina and Anna who work for
FEMONDIAL hand-woven ceremonial bags produce. Weaving has a special spiritual significance for these people. The bags symbolise the feminine, which is considered to be the origin of the world.

Yemen (Anonymous Women's Collective)

As part of a humanitarian project in Yemen, our chairwoman became aware of a women's collective that hand-embroidered shoulder bags produced.

FEMONDIAL has included some of their unique handicrafts in the range to give these women, who live in an extremely conservative society, a bit of financial independence.

Tanzania (Aflii Foundation)

Floraa young, committed Tanzanian woman, founded the charitable foundation "Aflii" in 2017. Women from very socially disadvantaged backgrounds are supported in becoming more independent and self-reliant. Due to a lack of education and traumatic experiences in the past, these women have few prospects for the future. The diverse range of products from Tanzania includes Travel bags, hip bags, compartments and slippers.
